Goole and Pocklington stretches across a large part of the East Riding of Yorkshire. Goole is the largest western town, located on the River Ouse and strongly associated with the port and surrounding low-lying landscape. Pocklington provides a separate market-town centre farther north-east, while Howden, Snaith and numerous villages serve surrounding rural areas. Much of the constituency consists of farmland across the Vale of York and Humberhead Levels, rising toward the Yorkshire Wolds in the east. Settlement is therefore dispersed across several small centres rather than concentrated in one town. The seat combines port, market-town and strongly rural landscapes across a broad east–west area.
