Finchley and Golders Green covers a broad part of the London Borough of Barnet. It includes Finchley, Golders Green, Hampstead Garden Suburb and neighbouring north-west London communities. The constituency is predominantly suburban and residential, with several distinct town and local centres rather than one dominant commercial core. Golders Green and Finchley each have strong transport links into central London, while Hampstead Garden Suburb is characterised by lower-density planned residential development and substantial green space. Parks, playing fields and cemeteries create breaks in the built-up landscape. The seat is firmly part of London’s continuous urban area but has a noticeably more suburban form than constituencies closer to the centre.
