About this constituency

Erith and Thamesmead crosses the borough boundary between Bexley and Greenwich in south-east London. It is centred on Erith and Thamesmead and includes residential communities along the southern side of the River Thames. The constituency has a strong riverside character, with marshland, former industrial areas and large-scale twentieth-century housing development shaping much of its landscape. Thamesmead has a planned modern form with lakes, waterways and estates, while Erith has an older town centre and industrial history. Major road and rail routes connect the area with central London and Kent. The seat is predominantly urban but contains substantial open and wetland areas close to the Thames.

A broad view of household types in this constituency. Project Open Gov uses the four broad groups supplied by the Commons Library so the presentation remains consistent across the UK.

Disability and day-to-day activities

The source records whether day-to-day activities are limited and uses separate person-level tables for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

134,969 people in the source baseCensus 2021Source comparison: England & Wales
Day-to-day activities limited a lot6.6% · 8,933 people
Day-to-day activities limited a little7.9% · 10,608 people
Not disabled under the Equality Act85.5% · 115,428 people

Comparison note: the workbook uses different source terminology across the UK: England & Wales uses “Disabled under the Equality Act”, while Scotland and Northern Ireland use “Disabled” / “Non-disabled”. Project Open Gov therefore preserves the source categories and does not present them as one single like-for-like UK legal definition.

Disability figures come from the Commons Library constituency workbook. This profile uses the person-level tables only; the workbook also contains separate household-level disability tables which are not used here. View disability source ↗
