Erewash lies between Derby and Nottingham and is centred on the towns of Ilkeston and Long Eaton. It also includes surrounding communities and villages within the Erewash borough. Ilkeston forms the main centre in the north, while Long Eaton lies closer to Nottingham and the River Trent in the south. The constituency contains a mixture of former industrial towns, suburban neighbourhoods and open land separating the larger settlements. The Erewash Canal, railway lines and major road routes are important physical features, reflecting the area’s location between two major East Midlands cities. Overall, the seat combines two distinct urban centres with smaller communities rather than forming one continuous town.
