Local context
Eastleigh constituency is centred on the Hampshire town of Eastleigh and extends into neighbouring suburban communities between Southampton and Winchester. It includes a largely continuous built-up area of housing, local centres and transport corridors, while some outer parts retain woodland, river valleys and open space. Eastleigh itself is the main commercial and rail centre and developed strongly around the railway network. The constituency’s position close to Southampton Airport and major motorway routes gives it strong transport connections, while nearby communities form part of the wider South Hampshire urban area. Overall, the seat is predominantly suburban and commuter-oriented rather than rural, although green corridors remain an important part of its landscape.
