Local context
East Grinstead and Uckfield is a broad inland constituency in East Sussex centred on two distinct towns. East Grinstead lies close to the West Sussex and Surrey borders, while Uckfield sits farther south-east within the Wealden landscape. The constituency also contains numerous villages and rural communities spread across the High Weald and surrounding countryside. Woodland, rolling hills and agricultural land separate the larger settlements, giving the seat a strongly rural character outside its main towns. East Grinstead and Uckfield each provide important local services, but neither dominates the entire constituency. The result is a dispersed seat built around market towns, villages and extensive countryside rather than a continuous urban corridor.
