Doncaster North covers the northern side of the Doncaster borough and includes a series of former mining and industrial communities together with suburban and semi-rural areas. The constituency contains towns and neighbourhoods north of central Doncaster, linked by road and rail corridors and separated in places by farmland and former colliery land. Settlement is spread across several distinct local centres rather than focused on Doncaster city centre itself. The River Don and its surrounding lowlands shape parts of the area, while the northern and western edges approach neighbouring parts of South and West Yorkshire. Overall, the seat combines closely connected communities with substantial open land between them.
