Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme stretches from eastern and south-eastern Doncaster into North Lincolnshire. On the Doncaster side it includes communities such as Hatfield, Thorne, Moorends, Rossington, Bawtry and Finningley. Across the local-authority boundary it takes in the Isle of Axholme, including a network of small towns and villages set within low-lying agricultural land. The constituency therefore has no single dominant urban centre. Instead, it combines former industrial and market communities with extensive countryside, drainage landscapes and farmland. Major road corridors and the flat geography of the Humberhead Levels link settlements across a wide east–west area.
