Dewsbury and Batley is a compact West Yorkshire constituency centred on the neighbouring towns of Dewsbury and Batley. It contains the main urban areas of both towns and surrounding residential districts, with a small extension toward the Kirkburton area. The landscape is strongly shaped by the valleys, hills and former textile industry of the district, with densely built neighbourhoods occupying much of the lower ground. Dewsbury and Batley each retain distinct town centres, but their built-up areas are closely connected to one another and to the wider Kirklees conurbation. Parks, former industrial sites and steeper open slopes create breaks within an otherwise largely urban seat.

We want to preserve and celebrate South Asian food heritage by creating a recipe book that is as much about memory and story as it is about cooking. Food holds the voices of our ancestors, the rhythms of migration and the joy of sharing across generations. Each recipe will be paired with a poem, story or fragment of history, creating a multi-sensory archive where taste and tradition intertwine. These elements will bring to life cultural memories that risk being forgotten, passing them on in new and engaging ways. The book will be both practical and symbolic: printed copies for use in kitchens, libraries and community spaces, and a digital version, accessible worldwide via QR codes and web links. Together, these resources will connect people to heritage in inclusive, accessible ways, ensuring these traditions continue to nourish communities for generations to come.
