Derby South covers the southern half of Derby and includes the city centre together with residential and industrial neighbourhoods extending south and east. The constituency contains central commercial and civic areas as well as communities such as Normanton, Sinfin, Alvaston and Chellaston. Much of the seat is densely urban, but its outer edge becomes more suburban and approaches open land toward South Derbyshire. The River Derwent, railway infrastructure and major industrial sites have strongly shaped the city’s development, and transport corridors continue to run through the constituency. The seat is therefore focused firmly on Derby itself, complementing the separate Derby North constituency.
