Local context

About this constituency

Derby North covers the northern half of the city of Derby. It includes neighbourhoods stretching from areas close to the city centre through established residential districts toward the city’s northern and north-western edge. The constituency is predominantly urban and suburban, with a mixture of older housing, later estates, commercial areas and major road corridors. Its outer neighbourhoods meet more open land toward Amber Valley and South Derbyshire, while the inner part connects directly with central Derby. Parks, river corridors and former industrial sites create breaks within the built-up landscape. Overall, the seat represents the northern part of one continuous city rather than a collection of separate towns.

Description last reviewed 2 September 2026.

Household composition

A broad view of household types in this constituency. Project Open Gov uses the four broad groups supplied by the Commons Library so the presentation remains consistent across the UK.

Families with dependent children27.3% · 11,789 households
Other single-family households34.5% · 14,932 households

Disability and day-to-day activities

The source records whether day-to-day activities are limited and uses separate person-level tables for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

103,234 people in the source baseCensus 2021Source comparison: England & Wales
Day-to-day activities limited a lot8.3% · 8,523 people
Day-to-day activities limited a little10.9% · 11,271 people
Not disabled under the Equality Act80.8% · 83,440 people

Comparison note: the workbook uses different source terminology across the UK: England & Wales uses “Disabled under the Equality Act”, while Scotland and Northern Ireland use “Disabled” / “Non-disabled”. Project Open Gov therefore preserves the source categories and does not present them as one single like-for-like UK legal definition.

Disability figures come from the Commons Library constituency workbook. This profile uses the person-level tables only; the workbook also contains separate household-level disability tables which are not used here. View disability source ↗
