Dartford itself provides the main town centre and transport focus, while the wider seat includes residential areas and settlements along the Thames-side and lower Darent corridor. The constituency sits at an important transition between outer London, Kent and the Thames estuary, with major road and rail routes crossing the area. Development is generally dense around Dartford and nearby suburbs, but the outer parts include open land and countryside. The River Darent and the Thames-side landscape help shape the northern and eastern edges of the constituency.
