Dagenham and Rainham crosses the boundary between Barking and Dagenham and Havering in east London. It links eastern Dagenham with Elm Park, South Hornchurch, Rainham and Wennington. The constituency changes from dense residential neighbourhoods around Dagenham into more suburban and lower-density communities toward Rainham. Its southern edge reaches the Thames-side industrial and marshland landscape, while the eastern boundary approaches the edge of Greater London. Major road and rail corridors run through the seat toward central London, Essex and the Thames Gateway. Rainham provides a distinct town centre, while Dagenham forms part of the much larger continuous east London urban area.
