Croydon South covers the southern part of the London Borough of Croydon and includes communities such as South Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon and parts of Sanderstead. It is predominantly suburban, with local town centres and residential neighbourhoods arranged along the main north–south transport corridors. Development is generally less dense than in central Croydon, and the constituency contains substantial areas of open land, woodland and green belt toward its southern and eastern edges. Purley and Coulsdon provide distinct centres, while South Croydon connects more directly with the larger Croydon urban area. The seat therefore forms a transition between continuous south London suburbia and the countryside beyond the capital.
