Congleton constituency covers a broad part of south-east Cheshire and is centred on Congleton, Sandbach and Alsager. It also includes Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and numerous surrounding villages and rural communities. The constituency contains several distinct market towns separated by farmland rather than one continuous urban area. Congleton lies close to the eastern edge of the Cheshire Plain and the foothills toward the Peak District, while Sandbach and Middlewich sit farther west in lower-lying countryside. Major road and rail routes cross the area between North Staffordshire, Crewe and Greater Manchester. The seat therefore combines growing towns, commuter settlements and a substantial agricultural hinterland.
