Chipping Barnet covers the northern edge of the London Borough of Barnet. It includes Chipping Barnet itself together with East Barnet, New Barnet, Whetstone, Totteridge, Oakleigh and surrounding neighbourhoods. The constituency is predominantly suburban, with several established town and local centres connected by rail and major roads into central London. Chipping Barnet provides the historic focal point, while New Barnet and Whetstone form separate built-up centres. Toward the northern boundary, development gives way to green-belt land and countryside near the Hertfordshire border. The seat therefore has a distinctly outer-London character, combining mature suburbs with significant open space at the edge of the capital.
