Local context

About this constituency

Chingford and Woodford Green covers the north-eastern edge of London across parts of Waltham Forest and Redbridge. It is centred on Chingford and Woodford Green and includes neighbourhoods around Highams Park, South Woodford and Woodford Wells. The constituency is predominantly suburban, with established residential streets and several distinct local centres. Its eastern and northern edges are strongly influenced by Epping Forest and other open spaces, creating a greener boundary than many inner-London seats. Rail routes connect the principal communities toward central London, while the seat’s outer position gives it a transition from continuous suburban development into woodland and green-belt landscapes.

Description last reviewed 1 September 2026.

Disability and day-to-day activities

The source records whether day-to-day activities are limited and uses separate person-level tables for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

111,004 people in the source baseCensus 2021Source comparison: England & Wales
Day-to-day activities limited a lot6.0% · 6,641 people
Day-to-day activities limited a little7.8% · 8,605 people
Not disabled under the Equality Act86.3% · 95,758 people

Comparison note: the workbook uses different source terminology across the UK: England & Wales uses “Disabled under the Equality Act”, while Scotland and Northern Ireland use “Disabled” / “Non-disabled”. Project Open Gov therefore preserves the source categories and does not present them as one single like-for-like UK legal definition.

Disability figures come from the Commons Library constituency workbook. This profile uses the person-level tables only; the workbook also contains separate household-level disability tables which are not used here. View disability source ↗

About this award

St Edmund’s is a place and people of significance to South Chingford. Our church and community hold stories of the development of South Chingford from its emergence as a place in the late 19th Century to the present day. We want to ensure that the church building continues to be in good repair, open to all. We want to better understand and celebrate the stories of South Chingford, so that with others we can meet the needs of our community. We want to be sustainable, using our resources efficiently and creating resilience. This project will safeguard St Edmund’s to these ends. Through substantial building work and community engagement we want to continue to tell the story of our parish as it has evolved and is evolving. We want to be part of valuing the past and passing on the heritage of South Chingford to future generations.
