Chesham and Amersham lies in the Chilterns of south Buckinghamshire and is centred on the two towns in its name. It also includes communities such as Little Chalfont, Great Missenden, Prestwood and surrounding villages. Chesham occupies the valley of the River Chess, while Amersham combines the historic old town with a larger twentieth-century settlement around the railway. Outside the principal towns, much of the constituency is made up of wooded hills, farmland and villages within the Chiltern landscape. The seat therefore has a mixed commuter-town and rural character, with settlements separated by substantial areas of open countryside despite their proximity to London.
