Chelmsford constituency covers the central and eastern parts of the city of Chelmsford. It includes the city centre and neighbourhoods such as Moulsham, Springfield, Great Baddow, Chelmer Village, Beaulieu Park and Patching Hall. The seat is predominantly urban and suburban, with Chelmsford providing a single clear commercial, administrative and transport centre. Older neighbourhoods around the centre give way to larger residential areas and newer development toward the eastern and northern edges. The rivers Chelmer and Can, together with rail and major road corridors, are important physical features within the city. Compared with surrounding Essex constituencies, Chelmsford is compact and overwhelmingly focused on one urban area.
