Cambridge constituency covers most of the city of Cambridge, including the historic centre and neighbourhoods such as Arbury, Chesterton, King’s Hedges, Newnham, Petersfield, Romsey and Trumpington. It is an overwhelmingly urban seat, but the city’s compact form is broken up by substantial green spaces, commons and the River Cam. The central area contains the oldest parts of the city and many university buildings, while outer wards include established residential districts and newer development around Trumpington and the northern edge. Cycling, rail and major roads connect the different neighbourhoods, but the constituency remains geographically compact compared with the surrounding rural Cambridgeshire seats.
