Calder Valley follows the River Calder and its surrounding hills through western Calderdale. It includes Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Brighouse, Elland, Greetland, Stainland, Hipperholme, Lightcliffe and a number of smaller valley and hillside communities. The constituency has a strongly linear geography: towns and villages occupy the valley floors and lower slopes, while open moorland rises sharply around them. Former industrial settlements are closely connected by road and rail along the Calder corridor, but the steep Pennine landscape creates clear physical breaks between many communities. The seat therefore combines substantial towns and suburban areas with wooded valleys, reservoirs and extensive upland countryside.

About this award
This project will fund a bike mechanic to deliver maintenance courses and refurbish donated bikes. Four e-bikes will also be purchased to increase the inclusivity of the organisation's offer, alongside parts and tools to maintain bikes. Additionally, at least two people will receive Ride Leader training to support four weekly guided rides, including a new ride for women, as well as servicing, repairs, maintenance and learn to ride courses, which will all support informal cycling and active travel. Funding will also support promotion costs.

Hebden Bridge Picture House is a rare survivor, at the heart of, and owned by, its community since 1921, the jewel in the crown of the cultural and community life of a special town. However, we face major risks, as well as opportunities to share, this amazing heritage. We face major risks of loss through structural challenges to the fabric, economic changes that mean we need new facilities to be viable for the future and urgent needs to make the cinema accessible to all. Our project will transform our community cinema, attracting new audiences, enabling everyone to enjoy their cinema, addressing environmental challenges, developing heritage skills and enabling our work with many groups who cannot access mainstream cinemas. The first Sanctuary Cinema in the UK, we will work with all of our communities, to secure an accessible, sustainable, viable cinema, at the heart of our community for the decades ahead.
