Bury South covers communities in the southern part of the Bury borough and extends into neighbouring Salford. It includes Radcliffe East and West, Besses, Pilkington Park, Unsworth, Holyrood, St Mary’s and Sedgley, together with Kersal and Broughton Park across the local-authority boundary. The constituency is almost entirely urban and suburban and forms part of the continuous northern Greater Manchester built-up area. Radcliffe provides one of its main town centres, while the Whitefield and Prestwich-side neighbourhoods connect southward toward Manchester and Salford. The River Irwell and major road and tram corridors help shape the area, with relatively little open countryside inside the seat.
