Local context
Buckingham and Bletchley crosses the boundary between Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. It brings together the historic market town of Buckingham and the surrounding rural area around Winslow and Great Brickhill with Bletchley and Tattenhoe on the south-western side of Milton Keynes. This creates a pronounced contrast between the planned urban and suburban neighbourhoods of Bletchley and the smaller towns, villages and farmland farther west. Buckingham is the main traditional market centre, while Bletchley forms part of the much larger Milton Keynes built-up area. The constituency is therefore unusual in combining a substantial modern urban district with an extensive rural Buckinghamshire hinterland in a single seat.
