Bristol Central covers much of Bristol’s inner city, bringing together the Central, Ashley, Clifton, Clifton Down, Cotham, Redland and Hotwells & Harbourside wards. The constituency includes the commercial and civic core, older residential neighbourhoods immediately around it, and much of the Floating Harbour. Bristol City Council describes the city centre as a series of distinct areas, including the shopping focus around Broadmead and Cabot Circus, the historic Old City, and the leisure and heritage areas around the Harbourside. Clifton, Cotham and Redland add established residential districts to the north and west. Overall, it is a compact, strongly urban constituency in which historic streets, waterfront areas and the modern city centre sit close together.
