Brighton Pavilion covers much of central and northern Brighton. It includes the city-centre and seafront areas around Regency and St Peter’s and North Laine, together with Hanover, Preston Park, Patcham, Withdean, Hollingdean and Stanmer. The constituency is almost entirely urban, but its physical character changes markedly from dense central streets and commercial districts to established residential neighbourhoods and lower-density suburbs farther north. The railway line and main routes north from the city pass through the seat, while Stanmer and the edge of the South Downs bring substantial open space into its northern part. Brighton city centre remains the principal focus, with neighbourhoods spreading outward up the surrounding slopes.
