Bolton West covers the western and north-western parts of the Bolton borough. It includes Horwich, Blackrod, Westhoughton, Heaton, Lostock, Smithills and Hulton. The constituency combines suburban parts of Bolton with the separate towns of Horwich and Westhoughton and more open land toward the borough’s western and northern edges. Horwich lies close to the West Pennine Moors and Rivington area, giving the northern side a noticeably more open setting than the densely built neighbourhoods closer to Bolton. Westhoughton forms another substantial centre to the south-west. The seat therefore mixes continuous Greater Manchester suburbs with distinct towns and countryside on the edge of the conurbation.
