Bolton North East covers the northern and eastern sides of Bolton. It includes Astley Bridge, Bradshaw, Breightmet, Bromley Cross, Crompton, Halliwell, Little Lever and Tonge with the Haulgh. The constituency is predominantly urban and suburban, with neighbourhoods close to Bolton town centre becoming lower-density toward Bromley Cross and the borough’s northern edge. Little Lever forms a distinct settlement to the east, while Bradshaw and Breightmet connect the seat toward Bury. The landscape becomes more open near the outer boundary, but most residents live within the continuous Greater Manchester built-up area. Bolton town centre itself lies just outside or on the edge of several of these neighbourhoods rather than dominating the whole seat.

This project will further expand the capacity of the Halliwell Girls Sports Hub programme. A new cohort of 50 South-Asian, Arab and Somali girls aged 11-18 will participate in boxing, rowing, swimming, equestrian, rambling and cycling. Eight-week blocks consisting of one hour of activity per week will be delivered, with participants now also able to complete a Level 1 sports qualification. Funding will support coaching fees and travel costs.

Our vision is to connect people with their natural heritage by providing a programme of volunteering, skills development, citizen science and wellbeing opportunities structured around the restoration of wet willow woodland and its threatened wildlife. Natural heritage restoration will strengthen and link habitats in nature recovery networks across the landscape, helping species such as threatened willow tits to thrive and expand. Taking part in tailored events, engagement programmes and practical conservation activity, local communities will discover, access and value the wildlife in their neighbourhoods and gain benefits through connection to nature, including conservation knowledge and skills, and improved health and wellbeing. We will boost the local citizen science resource to help support ongoing natural heritage recovery. By conserving and connecting wildlife sites, Restoring Willow Woodland Wildlife will help deliver Local Nature Recovery Strategies across Greater Manchester and Cheshire and Warrington, contribute to sustainability aims and tackle the Biodiversity Emergency.
