Birmingham Erdington covers the north of Birmingham around Erdington and a series of neighbouring residential communities. Its wards include Castle Vale, Erdington, Gravelly Hill, Kingstanding, Perry Common, Pype Hayes and Stockland Green, together with part of Oscott. The constituency stretches from the more inner-urban areas around Gravelly Hill and Stockland Green northwards through Erdington to outer neighbourhoods such as Kingstanding and Castle Vale. It is almost entirely built up, but the density and street pattern vary between its older terraced districts, post-war estates and suburban areas. The seat is therefore best understood as a group of connected north Birmingham neighbourhoods centred on Erdington rather than a single uniform urban district.
