Bethnal Green and Stepney is a densely built inner-east London constituency wholly within Tower Hamlets. It includes Bethnal Green, Stepney Green, Whitechapel, Shadwell, Spitalfields and Banglatown, Weavers and the St Dunstan’s and St Peter’s areas. The seat lies immediately east of the City of London and extends towards the older dockside neighbourhoods around Shadwell. It is compact and almost entirely urban, with closely spaced residential streets, estates, commercial areas and major transport routes. Several of London’s historic East End districts fall within a relatively small area, giving the constituency a noticeably different scale from the larger suburban and rural seats elsewhere in the country.
