Bermondsey and Old Southwark is a compact inner-London constituency along the south bank of the Thames. It runs from Borough and Bankside and the London Bridge area east through Bermondsey to Rotherhithe and Surrey Docks. The seat also includes Chaucer, St George’s and South Bermondsey. Its northern edge follows one of the most intensively developed parts of the Thames, while farther south and east there are established residential neighbourhoods, railway land and former industrial areas. The Boundary Commission described the constituency as extending along the river from the Rotherhithe area towards Blackfriars Bridge. It is therefore strongly urban, with several distinct historic districts connected by the Thames-side and inner Southwark street network.
