Local context
Bath constituency covers the whole of the city of Bath together with some rural areas to its north and east. Most of the constituency is therefore focused on the compact urban area of Bath, with its city-centre neighbourhoods and residential districts extending up the surrounding slopes and valleys. Beyond the continuous built-up area, the boundary includes a smaller area of countryside and settlements on the city’s edge. Bath and North East Somerset Council distinguishes this seat from the more rural North East Somerset and Hanham and Frome and East Somerset constituencies, making Bath the most city-focused of the three parliamentary areas touching the council. The result is a constituency dominated by one historic urban centre with a limited rural fringe.
