Bassetlaw covers a broad area of northern Nottinghamshire, with Worksop and Retford as its two largest towns. It also includes Harworth, Langold, Misterton and a wide collection of smaller villages and rural communities. Bassetlaw District Council describes the district as sitting close to Yorkshire and influenced by surrounding centres including Sheffield, Doncaster, Chesterfield, Nottingham and Lincoln. Much of the population is concentrated in Worksop and Retford, while a large number of smaller settlements are spread across the countryside between them and toward the Trent Valley. The constituency therefore combines substantial market-town and former industrial urban areas with an extensive rural hinterland and a number of smaller service centres.
