Basildon and Billericay brings together two of the main urban centres in the Basildon borough. The northern part is centred on Billericay and Burstead, while the southern half reaches into Basildon through wards including Fryerns, Lee Chapel North, Laindon Park, St Martin’s and Vange. The constituency is therefore predominantly urban and suburban, but its two principal centres have different physical forms: Billericay has a more traditional town layout, while much of Basildon was developed as a post-war new town. Residential neighbourhoods, local centres and transport corridors fill most of the seat, with smaller areas of open land around the edges of the built-up settlements.
