Barking is an east London constituency lying wholly within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It is centred on Barking town centre and includes neighbourhoods such as Abbey, Eastbury, Longbridge, Becontree, Gascoigne, Mayesbrook and the Thames ward. The constituency stretches from established residential areas around Barking and Becontree south toward the River Thames and the large regeneration areas close to the river. Barking station and the town centre form an important transport and commercial focus, while the southern part of the seat has a more industrial and redevelopment-oriented landscape. Overall, it is a compact urban constituency with dense residential neighbourhoods, major transport corridors and a substantial Thames-side edge.
