What this bill is about
The Environmental Impact Assessment (Downstream Emissions) Bill would change how environmental impact assessments consider certain fossil-fuel developments. In particular, it would provide that downstream greenhouse gas emissions from burning or other end use of extracted hydrocarbons are not required to be assessed as part of the environmental impact assessment for these developments. The Bill also includes provisions related to decisions on consent and planning permission for certain such developments.
