Main development

The most substantial policy focus of the day in Parliament came from House of Lords debates on two separate private members’ bills. Peers considered the Lobbying Transparency (In-house Lobbyists) Bill [HL], aimed at improving how political lobbying carried out within organisations is disclosed and monitored. Later, they also debated the Nature’s Rights Bill [HL], which would reframe environmental matters in legal terms by recognising “rights” for nature. • The Ministry of Defence announced it has awarded a £4.6 billion international contract to Edgewing, backed jointly by three partner nations, to progress the next stage of a next-generation fighter jet design. The Government described the award as funding that advances development work. [3]
