The Opposition moved a reasoned amendment asking the Commons to decline the Immigration and Asylum Bill a Second Reading. The amendment argued that, although it welcomed some provisions, the Bill did not go far enough on illegal immigration, deportations, asylum, settlement and the effect of human-rights law. MPs voted on that amendment before the separate vote on whether the Bill should receive a Second Reading.
