What this bill is about
The Water Regulation Bill would require the Secretary of State to review when a “special administration order” could be made for a water company, and would set out rules about the content and use of such orders. It would also change how affected water companies are handled through mutualisation, and it proposes to abolish one regulatory authority and create a “Clean Water Authority”. The bill would further require water companies to collect and publish certain volume-flow data, and to offer a social tariff.
What it would do
- Require a review by the Secretary of State of the circumstances for making special administration orders for water companies.
- Set provisions on the content and application of special administration orders.
- Provide for mutualisation of a water company where a special administration order has been made.
- Abolish the Water Services Regulation Authority and establish a Clean Water Authority.
