What this bill is about
The Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979 (Review) Bill would require the Secretary of State to review and publish a report on whether the statutory sum under the Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979 should be increased. The report would consider claims made since 1 January 2020 and would look at increasing the relevant sum by an amount representing inflation since 2007.
What it would do
- Create a duty for the Secretary of State to review the “merits” of increasing the Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979 statutory sum.
- Require the Secretary of State to publish a report setting out the review results.
- Specify that the review relates to “all claims since 1 January 2020”.
- Link the possible increase to “an amount representing the amount of inflation since 2007”.
