What this bill is about
The Rule of Law (Enforcement by Public Authorities) Bill is a Private Members’ Bill that would require public authorities to use their existing statutory powers to investigate alleged breaches of the law and, where appropriate, take enforcement action. It also proposes making provision for sanctions where a public authority fails to take such enforcement action, along with “connected purposes”. The bill is intended to set clearer expectations for enforcement activity by public bodies.
